Wikipedia2XML

Wikipedia2XML is a collection of Python scripts that contains:

• a regular expression based parser for for the Wikipedia markup language
• a script to convert Wikipedia database backup dumps into an XML corpus.
• a module to access this corpus from Python
  Current Wikipedia dumps are available on http://download.wikipedia.org/backup-index.html
  The output format is a simplification of the TEI-lite standard for linguistic text encoding http://www.tei-c.org/Guidelines/Customization/Lite/

Requirements

• Python2.5
• Expat non-validating XML parser and the PySax SAX2 library (included in PyXML and bundled with Python, sometimes the PYTHONPATH has to be set appropriately).
• Python bz2 handler.
• Wikipedia backup dumps (see above), diskspace, some memory and a lot of time.
